After a GP appointment and confirmation of a hearing impairment, they may suggest hearing aids.
If hearing aids are required, you GP will give you the next steps to take.

You can inquire about hearing aids through the Choose and Book system. Choose and Book allows you to choose where to be assessed. Choose and Book is offered within 21 GP locations across the NHS Wakefield and District.
NHS hearing aids, maintenance and battery replacement are free of charge. Damaged or lost hearing aids may incur charges.
WDUP have developed a Communication Access Passport (CAP), supported by Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
Once filled out and taken to your healthcare appointment, the CAP will provide your healthcare workers with your essential medical information.
The CAP will work alongside a wallet sized deaf card that can be used to request communication support from health and social care providers.

Wakefield and District Society for Deaf People
Wakefield and District Society for Deaf People is a specialised service concerned with the needs of deaf, deafblind and hearing-impaired people throughout the Wakefield Metropolitan District.
This service is funded by Wakefield Council.
Wakefield and District Society for Deaf People provides range of support services:

- Letter translation
- Making telephone calls
- Booking interpreters
- Signposting
- Advocacy
- Arranging support with BSL interpreters
Access to work funding is available for full and part time employees, including those on apprentices, traineeships and those self-employed.
Funding is available for communication support during interviews and within the workplace.
Access to Work (ATW) staff may suggest a specialist assessment to be carried out to outline the correct support you require.
WDUP are a 'User involvement group' and its members are deaf.
The members discuss improvements and work with health and council members to implement change for the better.
The Reverand Mark Smith leads BSL Church services across West Yorkshire. He can also help you to arrange Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals in sign language.
