Advocacy under the Mental Health Act
It does not matter what age you are - if you are in contact with mental health services you can ask for help from the Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) Service. The IMHA Service supports people who are detained ('sectioned') under the Act. This usually means detention in a mental health hospital, although sometimes people are held in other settings, such as a care home. The Service helps you understand your rights under the Mental Health Act.
In Wakefield the IMHA Service is provided by Wakefield Advocacy Together Hub. You can refer yourself to the IMHA Service, or you can ask someone who is directly involved in your care or treatment to do so with your permission.
