Support for living with a visual impairment

You can call Silver Line on 0800 4 70 80 90. They are a confidential helpline that provides information and advice to older people.

If you are experiencing low mental health or struggling with your diagnosis, you can refer yourself to Turning Point. You can contact them on 01924 234 860 or wakefield.talking@turning-point.co.uk.

Live Well Wakefield supports people living in Wakefield to manage long-term conditions. You can call them on 01924 255363. You can also complete a self-referral form here.

Support from local support groups

Wakefield District Sight Aid organises social groups and events where people can come together and have support from others. You can find a list of social groups and events on their website. You can also book a place on the ‘living well with sight loss’ course if you have a visual impairment. You can contact 01924 2155555 to find out more.

The group meets every fortnight on a Monday event from 7pm. For more information on the group, and to find out when they will next meet, contact 01924 365357.

Blind Veterans UK support ex-service men and woman who have a visual impairment. You can call 0800 389 7979 for more information.

This is a Leeds based charity. They can help with benefits, advocacy, aids, social events and physical exercise. You can find out more about them by visiting their website here or call 0113 210 3347.

There is a Wakefield support group that meets evet first Tuesday of the month, 12:30 – 15.30pm. For more information on this support group, you can call 01924 826501.
