Paying for Care

You may have to pay towards your care. This will depend on your financial circumstances and care needs.

You can contact Social Care Direct on 0345 8 503 503 to ask about paying for your care. They will direct you to a trained staff member who will discuss your care and support needs. This is known as a Care Act Assessment.

You will also discuss the different ways your needs could be met and the cost of them. A financial assessment will take place to work out how much you will pay. You could be eligible for financial support for the Council depending on how much you have in savings and assets.

The online tool ' BetterCare Wakefield' that can guide you through a financial assessment. It will calculate how much you will pay towards your care costs. The online tool can be found here.

If you are looking for advice, you can contact Citizens Advice. They provide free advice online, by telephone or face-to-face.

There are also other organisations that can provide you with information and advice, they are:

If you have been assessed as needing social care support, you may be offered a direct payment.

This enables you to:

  • Arrange and manage your own support
  • Have more choice in who helps support you
  • Be more flexible and creative and fit around your life and needs

Managing a Direct Payment can be quite time consuming so it's important you understand what is involved.  A Third Party Supported Accountant (TPSA), such as Penderels Trust, can support you in managing your Direct Payment.

Penderels Trust works in partnership with  Wakefield Council to support adults and children who receive a direct payment. They want people to get the most out of their care money and to achieve their goals. You can find out about their direct payments drop-in sessions on their website.
