Staying Healthy in Wakefield

Live Well Wakefield offer a range of practical activities, groups and support to support you to live a healthy and happy life.

West Yorkshire Health and Care partnership is an ‘Integrated Care System’. They work in partnership with NHS organisations, councils, Healthwatch, hospices, charities and the community voluntary and social enterprise sector to improve the health and wellbeing of local people.

Wakefield Council’s public health information pages have resources to help support your health, including local initiatives that you can take part in.

MECC Link, is a simple signposting website to better health and wellbeing.

Wakefield Discovery and Recovery Colleges: We run short courses and one off workshops across the whole of the Wakefield district to support you to; understand and manage health conditions, find new skills and interests, build strengths and inner resources, engage in physical activity and become an expert in your own self-care.

If you are a registered carer, you are eligible for the new Aspire Activate membership. The membership will provide you with access to swimming, gym and fitness class facilities at a discounted price of £16 per month. You will be able to use any of the six Aspire facilities:

  • Aspire at the Park, Pontefract
  • Sun Lane Leisure, Wakefield
  • Thornes Park, Wakefield
  • Minsthorpe Leisure
  • Featherstone Sports Compelx
  • Normanton Leisure

Having an Aspire Activate membership will allow you to access the Aspire Health 12 week success pathway which is delivered by fitness consultants to help improve your health and fitness over a 12 week period. You will have a consultation with Aspire's fitness consultants to share your goals and explain any medical or personal issues. They will meet with you once a week to check your progress and offer any support during the course of the programme.

To sign up, you can enter your closest Aspire facility and ask to become an Activate member at the reception. You will need to take proof with you for the discount to be applied, the proof could be your carers allowance payment or a letter.

Evergreen Active CIC exists to help anyone and everyone to improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing. They do this by putting fun, inclusivity and sustainability at the forefront of being physically active, for everyone. They offer a range a services such as:

  • Family fit
  • MSA fit
  • PE fit
