Staying Healthy in Wakefield

It is important to stay and keep healthy, whether you're a carer or have a health condition. This might be more difficult for people with specific conditions, such as a physical disability.

You can find support and services that will help you stay healthy below.

Live Well Wakefield offers a range of activities, groups and support so you can live a healthy life. It can provide information on how to self-manage long term health conditions. You can read about it here.

MECC Link is a website that can signpost you to support and services. These services can help support you get better health and wellbeing.

Aspire

Activate membership - for carers

If you are a registered carer, you can get an Aspire Activate membership. This membership will provide you with access to facilities at a discounted price of £16 per month. You will be able to use any of the six Aspire facilities:

  • Aspire at the Park, Pontefract
  • Sun Lane Leisure, Wakefield
  • Thornes Park, Wakefield
  • Minsthorpe Leisure
  • Featherstone Sports Compelx
  • Normanton Leisure

Being an Aspire Activate member enables you to access the Aspire Health 12 week success pathway. This is delivered by fitness consultants to help improve your health and fitness over a 12 week period.

To sign up as a member, you can enter your nearest Aspire facility and ask to become a member at the reception. You will need to take proof that you are a caring for the discount to be applied.

Aspire Health OnDemand

You can now watch and join in on classes from your own home. Aspire Health OnDemand is available 24/7 so you can access workouts whenever suits you. 

 

Evergreen Active

Evergreen Active aims to help people improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing. They do this with fun and inclusive physical activities. They offer a range of services such as:

  • Running fit
  • Walking fit
  • Family fit
  • MSA fit
  • PE fit

Healthy Ageing

You can find a guide to healthy ageing here. The guide offers tips on making your home safe, and how to keep healthy as you age.

Wakefield Council also have some tips of staying healthy as you age.

Age UK hold Time for Tea events throughout the Wakefield District. These usually take place in shared public spaces such as supermarkets and shopping centres. It is an opportunity for older people to gather informally and enjoy refreshments in areas they may already visit.
