Within Wakefield there are a number of services for people who are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing or deaf-blind. You will find further information below.

Communication Support

Below you will find further information about how to request communication support from a service provider. This information is available in leaflet format if you wish to carry this and present it to a service provider. You can request this from the Deaf Society. The information below is taken from the leaflet ‘A Guide to Requesting Communication Support in Wakefield’

Requesting a Communication Professional:

  1. Approach the service provider and request that a communication professional (BSL, Speech to Text Operator) is provided as a “reasonable adjustment” in order to access the service.
  2. Give as much notice as possible for the booking of an interpreter. Try to be flexible with dates and times.
  3. Provide information about the type of interpreter you need.
  4. If you are having difficulty requesting an interpreter, support is available from:
