In this section you will find information about managing debt, money management, budgeting, benefits and paying for care. You will find links to local and national organisations that can provide further information and advice in these areas.

Debt

The following organisations will provide assistance with managing and taking control of debt.

  • National Debtline is a free, confidential, debt advice service for people in England, Wales and Scotland. They provide a freephone number that you can contact them at 0808 808 4000, online factsheets and an interactive online advice service My Money Steps.
  • The Money Advice Service is a free impartial advice service that was set up by the Government.
  • Wakefield Council Housing Advice Team offer advice about mortgage and rent arrears. They operate an appointment system, drop in sessions and an advice line.
  • Step Change Debt Charity provides free, confidential and impartial advice and practical solutions to debt problems.
  • The Insolvency Service is a Government department that administers private bankruptcy and company liquidations.
  • The Citizens Advice Bureau can provide free and independent advice about managing debt. You can contact them on 03444 111 444 to speak to an advisor.
