What is a Physical Disability?

A physical disability is the long-term loss or impairment of part of your body. This impairment or loss will affect your physical function such as difficulty walking or moving part of your body. A physical disability doesn't stop you from performing day to day tasks, but it will make them more challenging.

There are many different causes of physical disabilities such as medical conditions, genetics and illnesses. Some examples of a physical disability include cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, carpal tunnel syndrome and amputations.

You can find a guide on the Citizen's Advice website about checking whether you are disabled. The guide can be found here.
