GPS Locators

A device, often worn or carried by someone with dementia, that utilizes the Global Positioning System (GPS) to track their location in real-time, should a caregiver need to locate them if they are at risk from wandering disorientation and memory loss.  These devices offer peace of mind to carers and families by enabling real-time location tracking and emergency alerts.  GPS locators include falls detection and are SIM enabled to be able to connect and directly speak to a monitoring centre or nominated carer, should an incident arise.

Things to Consider

  • It is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and make sure this equipment is secure, set up correctly and regularly tested

  • Battery Life: Choose devices with long battery life or easy charging routines.  Most devices need charging regularly as if this isn’t done, the device won’t work when needed
  • Signal Coverage: Opt for devices with roaming SIMs to ensure strong mobile signal
  • Ease of Use: Simple interfaces and automatic alerts are ideal for both users and carers
  • Privacy & Consent: Ensure decisions are made in the person’s best interest, especially if you hold Power of Attorney
